Domestic

Water Useage in

Mars Base Zero

During January and February we (Frankie and Ray) were very careful of the domestic water we used.  We limited our use by being very conservative with cooking water (ie just enough to cook macaroni, rather than half a pot extra), keeping dishes clean by wiping them down immediately after use with only one dish washing per week.  During this time our water use was around a gallon a day (half a gallon per day per person).  It should be kept in mind that during the winter here in Alaska very little water is needed to cover sweat losses, so water consumption is lower than during the summer or in warmer climates.

Cloths washing and bathing was done elsewhere, so these values do not reflect water needed for these activities.  At a future date we will include these items.

The following table is a table of dates and amounts of water obtained, and (where able) the daily usage is calculated.  This is very incomplete, for we did not track it very far past the end of January.  However we did not change our needs or use very much, so it likely remained the same throughout the rest of the trial period.
