Description:
- Square A is the northwestern most square in Mars Base Zero.
- Bounded on the north by the north wall.
- Bounded on the west by the west wall.
- Bounded on the south by square B, and separated from square B with a loose concrete block wall 3 blocks (2 feet) high.
- Bounded on the east by square C, and separated from square C with a loose concrete block wall 2 blocks (16 inches) high.
- There is no soil in the square; it is used for storage, composting and a (very) few potted plants.
- Size:
- 11' (3.4 m) east/west by 11' 3.5" (3.5 m) north/south
- 124 square feet (11.75 square meters)
Usage History:
- Since this square is the furthest from the entry, it tends to
gather things that aren't used very often. To facilitate this we
added a table in the corner.
- During the 1999-2000 winter (October to April) this is where the
chickens were kept. Heat pipe coil was also located here over the
winter.
- 2004 is the first year that it had any crops in it, and then not
many: just a pumpkin in a pot. Over the summer we also stored the
scaffolding there, and during the fall '04 closure period we added in
the compost pile.
Potential
Future Plans:
- Addition of a fish tank.
- Chicken coup restored.
- Preplant are along N wall, complete with lights and multiple shelves
- Addition of a loft area for more storage and plants.
