Usage History:
- This soil bed was first filling in the summer of 1999.
- 1999: It was planted this summer in turnips, carrots and wheat.
- 2000: fallow
- 2001: fallow
- 2002: Sketch of layout. Wheat, beans, peas, carrots, radishes, broccoli, cabbage and onions. Photo of north half (looking NW). Photo of the south half (looking SE).
- 2003: fallow
- 2004: Potatoes, turnips, cabbage, wheat and spelt.
Fertilization Schedule:
- 1999: filled with soil from the origional garden area. It
is a little low in most things, but it has a good amount of organic
stuff in it so it should provide adequate nutrients.
- 2000: fallow; not too many weeds grew because it was too dry (under the roof).
- 2001: ditto.
- 2002: It was watered with Miracle Grow fertilizer about 3 times over the summer.
- 2003: Fallow; not too many weeds grew because it was too dry (under the roof).
- 2004:
Fertilized with 3 kg 8-32-16 on 5/22/04. It was watered with
Miracle Grow fertilizer (30 gallons) about 5 times over the summer.
Potential
Future Plans:
- 2005 potatoes in the south half?
- It is getting very low on organics; the soil is no longer nice and fluffy. Need to add in compost ASAP.
