Meeting Notice | Site Map |
Well today ends the second week of closure. The temperature
outside has gotten a little cooler, there is a bit of snow
on the ground and our daylight is getting shorter and
shorter (we get as low as 3.5 hours though, so we've a ways
to go yet).
There has been a certain amount of media attention this last
week. First Fraser Cain of Universe Today
(http://universetoday.com) an excellent article about Mars
Base Zero ("Eat Like a Martian in Alaska") and then today
Dermot Cole published a great column "Resident of 'Mars Base
Zero' isolates himself in greenhouse" in the Fairbanks Daily
Newsminer.
The food is holding up very well. I have harvested 30 of
the 76 potato plants; 2 of the 5 cabbage; about 1/4 of the
onions and about 1/3 of the carrots. Everything else is
still available in large quantities.
I have put more questions & answers on our web site at:
https://isecco.org/projects/celss/marsbase/2004/questions.html
We have had a number of people pledge $1/day or more; Thanks
Folks! We really appreciate it. If we get enough pledges
we'll be able to put in power next year--and with better
power we'll have lights and be able to run longer into the
winter.
Our web site had a great spike when the articles came out.
If you know of anyone who is interested you might tell them
about our web site.
To those of you who have recently joined, Welcome
To the stars, through dirt:
